Trent Reznor Wins Oscar For The Social Network Score
Trent Reznor won his first Oscar for composing the score for the movie, “The Social Network,” along side Atticus Ross. Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, the one-man band has never received much recognition in the mainstream until just now. Though he’s inspired many to do their “solo man” projects. He’s collaborated with the likes of Peter Murphy, David Bowie, TV On The Radio, David Lynch and most recently with Atticus Ross for the score of “The Social Network.” (They were both nominated.)
He’s definitely a top guy that has set many trends while remaining under the radar. He’s been more than happy with that. He’s always done what he loves and he’s done it all on his own, with minimum or no management.
Here’s what he had to say about winning an Oscar: “At this point in my life, and I guess my maturity level, it doesn’t feel odd,” he says. “What I think is monumental about this is, this isn’t a traditional score. And the movie doesn’t feel like a traditional Oscar candidate film. It’s very contemporary and the score doesn’t behave like normal scores do. This wasn’t like, let’s make something and cater it for awards season. In all honestly, if you’d have told me a year ago [that I’d be nominated], I would never have believed you. We didn’t go into it with that mindset at all.”
So though he feels a sense of pride for winning, it was never his intention. He wasn’t aiming for that kind of award. But since he got it he might as well enjoy it and give himself a pat on his back for a job well done. I mean it’s about time that Hollywood gives props to some real talent and a genius of sorts.
